Babette Labeij Music Academy
"Singing is my outlet, my freedom, my way of letting go and truly being myself. My journey began with jazz vocal studies at the conservatory and as a backing singer for artists like Paul de Leeuw, Ruth Jacott, Lois Lane, and Edsilia Rombley. I then took my own band, Babette & Friends, into the club scene. I also released two albums where I could fully express my voice and my story. It was an incredible learning experience that deepened my knowledge of vocal technique and gave me invaluable stage experience—a background I now use to coach my students with confidence and conviction."
In 2001, Babette took her first steps toward sharing her passion for singing by founding the children's choir De Babbeltjes. What started as a weekly rehearsal with a group of enthusiastic kids quickly grew into a beloved and vibrant choir. It wasn’t just about sharing her love for music; it was about her ambition to work with the singers toward a tangible result, bringing out the best in each of them. Motivated by this success and the need for a place where vocal talent could thrive, she opened her own singing school in Amsterdam: the Babette Labeij Music Academy (BLMA). It’s an inspiring environment where both children and adults can discover, develop, and dare to express their voices.
Since then, BLMA has grown into a leading vocal academy with locations in Amsterdam and Hilversum. The school offers professional group and private lessons for all ages and skill levels. With personalized attention, expert knowledge, and a lot of enthusiasm, the academy helps students not only refine their vocal technique but also boost their confidence—on stage and beyond.
